The Green Party leader says it is "absolutely the right thing" for the Government to buy up build-to-rent developments.
There have been suggestions the so-called cuckoo or vulture funds are backing away from the Irish market meaning thousands of apartments have stalled due to a lack of finance.
It was suggested at the weekend in the Daily Mail, which quoted a Cabinet would which said as many as 70,000 homes could be stalled.
It would be a way for the state to boost it's housing target figures.
The state has a target of 33,000 homes a year coming on stream, however, it's struggling to hit its social and affordable targets within that.

Speaking on the Last Word on Today FM, Minister Eamon Ryan said "we should do it at scale and at speed.
"We have a housing crisis, we have to deliver for our younger people.
"What we do have is a lot of applications through the planning system typically for Build-To-Rent type accommodation, and I believe it will be possible for us to use public financing to ensure those projects are developed."
