The DUP has agreed a deal to restore power sharing in Northern Ireland after a two year deadlock.

The party's executive backed a deal overnight following an agreement with the UK government on post-Brexit trading.

Now the DUP says the British Government will pass laws removing checks for goods moving to, and remaining in, Northern Ireland.

The assembly hasn't met for almost two years after the DUP walked out in protest over the Northern Ireland Protocol.

Northern Ireland Secretary Chris Heaton-Harris is welcoming the move and insists the British Government WILL deliver on its end of the deal.

Sinn Fein President Mary Lou McDonald, says they'll now "engage with the parties and both governments to ensure" they "all press on without delay."

DUP leader Jeffrey Donaldson, says the arrangement should see the Northern Ireland Assembly restored by the February 8th deadline.

"We recognise that significant further advances have been achieved through these negotiations.

This package, I believe, safeguards Northern Ireland's place in the Union and will restore our place within the UK internal market."
