Dublin's Capel Street becomes the longest pedestrianised road in the city today.
Works were carried out last night to allow the busy thoroughfare in the north inner city to become traffic-free.

It follows a number of weekend trials last summer and a public consultation.
Following the trial runs, 90% of respondents said they had a positive experience on the city centre street when it was closed to traffic.

Dublin City Council will provide extra stewards in the coming weeks to direct traffic while extra loading bays are being installed in neighbouring streets to accommodate the change.
