A Dublin man has been jailed for six months for fatally assaulting a Longford man over a year ago in New York.
Steven O'Brien, with an address at 42nd Street, Queens, New York, pleaded guilty to a third-degree assault on Danny McGee last November.
The Dublin native had admitted to punching the Longford man once outside a bar in Queens in November 2018.
Mr McGee died in hospital hours after the incident from serious head injuries.
At his sentence hearing in New York today, the 26-year-old's lawyer said his client was remorseful for his actions.
In an emotional victim impact statement, Danny McGee's mother said that her son dying in a violent way left her in disbelief.
She said her son was a "gentleman".
