A Dublin man has gone on trial accused of murdering his father.
Mark Tims is accused of beating Anthony Tims to death at their home at Rowlagh Green in Clondalkin on July 13th, 2018.
At the time, the 47-year-old was living with his father at the home he grew up in.
In his opening address, prosecuting barrister Michael Delaney told the jurors it was the prosecution’s case that he assaulted his father on that date in a “vicious and sustained” manner that led to his death.
He described their relationship as “difficult” and at times “volatile”.
It was Anthony’s 74th birthday and Mr. Delaney said it would be alleged that Mark had been drinking at home when his father returned after spending the afternoon in his local pub.
An argument turned physical, he said, before adding that it would be alleged that he punched and beat his father with a mug and kicked him repeatedly after he fell to the floor.
He said he then left the house and went drinking with a friend. The jurors heard Gardaí found him hiding in a bush the following day.
The trial is expected to take two weeks.
