An event is taking place in Dublin today to mark the first anniversary of the passing of the abortion referendum.
On May 25 last year, almost 67% of the population voted to repeal the Eighth Amendment.
The campaign group ‘Together for Yes’ will mark the event in Essex Street today, where the ‘Repeal’ heart symbol was painted last year.
Ailbhe Smyth, who was a director with the lobby group, says it’s important to recognise the landmark occasion: 'It was I think experienced by the country as a whole as a very historic and truly momentous occasion where we had made a major decision in relation to women's reproductive rights.

Meanwhile, in the US, there are calls for tough new abortion laws to be extended across the country.
Alabama recently banned them in nearly all circumstances, including rape and incest.
Republicans there say they hope it'll lead to the Supreme Court overturning women's right to the procedure nationwide.
