Dublin Could Break Memorial Rule For Sinead O'Connor Statue

Dublin's Lord Mayor says rules about statues in the city should be broken for Sinéad O'Connor.

The local authority has a rule meaning a memorial can't be build for someone until they're dead for 20 years.

James Geoghegan has said if there's anyone to break rules for - it would be Sinéad O'Connor.

Last week, the anniversary of the singer's death was overshadowed by a wax figure being unveiled which drew criticism with many saying it didn't look like her.

In a statement, Lord Mayor of Dublin James Geoghegan said, "there is a longstanding rule in Dublin City Council that you can’t build a statue or a memorial for someone unless they are deceased for 20 years.

"If ever there was someone the rules should be broken for, Sinéad O’Connor is that person.

"It would be nice to turn what was a negative controversy about her wax sculpture into something positive that could involve Sinéad’s family and pay tribute to her legacy.”
