Dublin and Limerick Cities Named Among Most Littered Places In the Country
The most recent Irish Business Against Litter (IBAL) survey has identified no 'litter black spots' around the country.
It's the first time, since the survey began 20 years ago, that no area was deemed as being 'seriously littered'.
However, IBAL is raising concerns over the amount of litter caused by coffee cups. It found coffee cup litter was close to peak-Covid levels.
The environmental group hopes the "impending Deposit Return Scheme will improve cleanliness levels further but is calling for action on coffee cups."
Dublin's north inner city, Dundalk in Co. Louth, Limerick city centre, and Dublin city centre were named as the four most littered areas of the country, by the latest Irish Business Against Litter survey.
Maynooth in Co Kildare, was named as the cleanest place in the country, followed by Mallow in Cork, and Sligo Town.
Overall, litter levels rose slightly, while more than 60% of towns surveyed were deemed clean.
There was another significant rise in the presence of disposable vapes, which were found in more than 10% of all sites covered.
