Drivers Set Up Taxi App To Compete With Larger Companies
A group of Dublin taxi drivers have set up an app to compete with larger companies.
'Hola' charges drivers €1 a fare, while Uber and FreeNow charge 12% and 15% on all fares respectively.
The creators say close to a thousand drivers have signed up.
"Our ethos is to keep everything as low as possible," says co-founder of the app Larry Kelly.
"Really a taxi is part of the service industry. We want to service the customer at the best rate possible.
"If things fluctuate in such a way that we may have to look at increasing the €1 [charge], we'll go to drivers first."
Uber Ireland says it welcomes the competition in the market, while FreeNow say drivers regularly get bonuses.
