Dr Niall Muldoon has been selected as the next Ombudsman for Children.
Dr Muldoon a Registered Clinical and Counseling Psychologist, was formerly the National Clinical Director of CARI children's charity.
He has worked in the area of child protection for nearly 20 years and is currently Director of Investigations at the Ombudsman for Children's Office.
He has held the post for 2.5 years and oversees almost 1,600 complaints every year made by or on behalf of children and young people about public bodies, schools and voluntary Hospitals
He is one of 97 people who applied to the Public Appointments Service for the post.
Announcing his appointment the Minister for Children Dr James Reilly thanked the Public Appointments Service for its rigour in managing the selection process which included input from children themselves. “I am encouraged by the significant interest in the post of Ombudsman for Children. It is an integral part of an enhanced architecture in this State devoted to improving the lives of our children and young people.
