New figures that show the number of homeless deaths in Dublin has doubled have been described as 'shocking'.
115 people died last year, up from 76 in 2020, and more than double the number that passed away in 2019.
A spike in homeless deaths at the start of last year led to a report being commissioned.
Mike Allen from Focus Ireland was asked how the increase could have happened;
"Well, we know that being homeless puts you at risk.
"It puts you at risk because it's a form of poverty, and poverty in itself puts you at risk because of nutritional and environmental factors.
"There is also the fact of addiction. Many people who are homeless become addicted while they're homeless."
