Donegal is being put to level three COVID restrictions from Saturday.
Cabinet Ministers made the decision is afternoon following the latest advice from the National Public Health Emergency Team.
Donegal will be at Level 3 for a period of 3 weeks, until Friday 16th October.
It means people should not travel in and out of the county, except for work education or other essential purposes.
Level three restrictions also include further limits on social gatherings, and the closure of the likes of cultural institutions.
42 new cases were identified in the county today among 324 nationally.
Acting Chief Medical Officer Dr Ronan Glynn revealed this evening that Donegal has the highest 7-day and 14-day incidence rate of the virus in the country.
It's 7 day incidence rate per 100,000 population now stands at 102. That's more than double that of any other county outside of Dublin.
