More than half of the adult population in Ireland have one hundred euro or less left each month once they've paid their essential bills.
However, there's been a drop in the number of people who are left with no money in their pockets at the end of the month, according to a report from the Irish League of Credit Unions.
The second What's Left Tracker from the Irish League of Credit Unions shows that disposable income has risen slightly since last May.
In September 2013 disposable income has increased by 6% from €163 in May 2013 to €172 In September 2013 for an average adult.
Disposable income has increased by 9% from €188 in May 2013 to €205 in September 2013 for a working adult in the past year.
However, coming into the Winter months when there's traditionally an increase in household utility bills it's undertain if this trend continues.
Meanwhile, the messages about shopping around to save money seem to be having an effect.
Fifty percent of people surveyed by the Irish League of Credit Unions have switched insurance provider in the last 12 months.
And almost four in ten adults now say they are saving on a monthly basis.
