A group of senators and former politicians has officially launched a campaign to save the Seanad.
The Democracy Matters group is calling for a No vote in October's referendum on abolishing the chamber.
The group says there are genuine prospects for reforming the Seanad, and the public should vote No if they'd prefer to see reform take place.
Independent senator Katherine Zappone said the government hadn't brought forward any proposals to reform the Dáil if the Seanad were scrapped.
