The Dáil has passed new laws on mandatory hotel quarantine.
The laws will affect travellers coming into Ireland from high-risk countries that have been recommended by NPHET.
20 countries were included in the original list of high-risk countries.
These include Brazil, South Africa, Austria, the UAE and 16 African countries.
However, Health Minister Stephen Donnelly says the original list may be revisited after a meeting this evening.
Not everyone is happy with the measures.
Rise TD Paul Murphy has labelled it a "useless joke".
"Mandatory hotel quarantine" for a tiny percentage of incoming travelers. In other words a useless joke.
Glad to see left-wing independents join SPBP in voting against this political theatre at final stage. https://t.co/TMhMQpqgyL— Paul Murphy (@paulmurphy_TD) February 25, 2021
Sinn Féin's Pearse Doherty has criticised the government for lack of communication with middle-ranking gardaí.
His comments have come after a spokeswoman for the AGSI said they don't know how hotel quarantine will work.
