Online flashing will soon become a criminal offence, under new plans before Cabinet this morning.
If these proposals are approved by government ministers this morning, online flashing - that is showing unsolicited nude content - will be banned,
The proposed laws would see social media companies facing multi-million euro fines if they fail to remove content of this nature.
It would also give the new Online Safety Commissioner the power to issue takedown orders for videos of people flashing.
Persistent non-compliance with such an order could lead to a €20 million fine, or 10% of turnover, whichever is larger.
The amendments to the Online Safety Bill will also see new codes for broadcasters, to ensure gender balance in current affairs programmes.
It will mean more songs by women will be played on the radio, while stations may be required to publish gender logs to ensure balance between men and women on air.
