Credit Unions are now offering current accounts to members.
Some of the country's largest Credit Unions have come together under the currentaccount.ie brand, to roll-out the new service.
Account holders will be given a contactless debit card and the option of an overdraft.
They'll also be able to arrange standing orders and direct debits.
Members will be able to open accounts in person at a Credit Union branch or online, unlimited standing orders and direct debits, and up to five free ATM withdrawals per month.
The account will cost €4 per month, which covers unlimited point of sale and contactless transactions.
The accounts will be available in over 30 Credit Unions, with 115 branches throughout the country in the coming weeks.
Further Credit Unions area expected to start providing the service in 2020.
Seamus Newcombe, chief executive of currentaccount.ie, says its great news for customers.
"It means Credit Union members with savings and loans will now be able to get a competitive Current Account from their trusted Credit Union, and they will no longer need to go to a bank to get this service."
"This new service, which will be accessible globally and digitally, will enable Credit Unions to become even more relevant to their members in our ever-increasingly digital world."
