Nine COVID-19 Deaths And Nine New Cases Announced

A further nine COVID-19 patients have died and nine new cases have been confirmed in Ireland.

It takes the national death toll to 1,691 and the number of confirmed cases to 25,215.

The figures include the denotification of one previously announced death and one previously-announced case.

Meanwhile, there are currently 110 confirmed cases of the virus in Irish hospitals, with 35 people currently in intensive care with their symptoms.

Officials said that, as of midnight on Monday, 367,780 tests had been carried out – with 19,364 carried out in the past week.

Of those, 185 came back positive – giving a positivity rate of 1%.

The Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan said: “While today we report nine new cases and the situation continues to improve in both Ireland and across Europe, the World Health Organisation has noted that now is not the time to ‘take the foot off the pedal’ and that countries need to continue to work hard to avoid complacency and promote solidarity.”

As of midnight on Sunday, just over 32% (8,087) of the country’s confirmed cases were associated with healthcare workers and 57% were women.

Some 3,331 (13%) of patients have been hospitalised, with 413 admitted to intensive care.

Dublin accounts for 48% of all cases while Kildare and Cork each account for 6%.

The Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr Ronan Glynn said: “Contact tracing & public health surveillance are essential elements in our response to COVID-19.

“Public Health doctors and their teams have quietly undertaken an extraordinary effort to contact trace over 25,000 COVID-19 cases to date.

“Going forward, we can all assist them in their work by limiting the number of people we meet and keeping a log of the people we interact with every day.”
