Inflation rose slightly, by 0.2 per cent, in the 12 months to December.
The CSO says the most notable increases were in alcohol and tobacco prices which rose by almost 6 per cent.
The price of clothing and footwear fell by four per cent.
The annual average rate of inflation in 2013 was 0.5 per cent.
