The majority of colleges and universities hope to open for first-year students from September 28th.
The Department of Further and Higher Education met with representatives from the sector today.
It was agreed that the return of third-level must be safe and guided by the best public health advice to ensure students and staff are protected.

In a statement, the Department says the Irish Universities Association, the Technological Higher Education Association and Technology University Dublin gave confirmed they're seeking to welcome first-year students from late September/early October.
It says "the majority seeking to open for first year students on September 28th."
Leaving Cert students are due to get their calculated grade results on September 7th.
Course offers are due to come out four days later.
