Labels informing buyers if an item of clothing is recyclable could become mandatory under new EU plans.
Member states are considering several proposals to crack down on "fast fashion" - such as using recycled textiles and making clothes more durable.
Fashion designer Helen Steele says sustainable fashion has advanced a lot in recent years.
"Fabrics have come a long way. There's been a lot of trial and error.
"I've been burnt a couple of times with quality, but the fabrics are getting so much better, the hand-feel is incredible and it's a change that needs to happen."
