It beat Blackpool in North West England and Todmorden in West Yorkshire to win the coveted Great Town Prize at the 2017 Urbanism Awards in London.
Clonakilty wasn't the only Irish winner - WaterfordÂ’s Viking Triangle won The Great Place Award.
