Charlie Bird has raised over €3.3m through his Climb with Charlie campaign.
The legendary broadcaster announced his plan to climb Croagh Patrick with family and friends after he was diagnosed with Motor Neurone disease last year.
In April of this year, thousands of people joined him on the climb.
Meanwhile, people also took part in almost two hundred other fundraisers across Ireland and around the world.
In the end, the campaign raised €3,376,000 for the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association and Pieta.
Presenting the cheques to the two charities this morning, Charlie remembered the special candles he lit on the top of Croagh Patrick in April.
“The first was for my friend Vicky Phelan,” he said.
“The second was for all those like myself with terminal illness.
“The third one was for all those who are in dark place and have their own personal mountains to climb.
“The fourth was to celebrate everyone who worked so hard in the battle against pandemic.
“The last one was, and still is, for the people of Ukraine.”
Charlie said he has had “many dark days” since his diagnosis but noted that: “Remarkably, here this morning, is one of the happiest days of my life.”
