The bill for the cleanup operation at Letterkenny General Hospital, in Co Donegal is likely to run to millions of euro after the facility was flooded last Friday.
A team of civil engineers is currently assessing how 40 per cent of the facility came to be damaged by flood water after heavy rain.
Several units including radiotherapy, and A&E have been closed. The hospital is without any X-ray facility and as a result no operations can take place.
Many services have been diverted to Derry and Sligo.
Senator John Crown wants the Oireachtas Health Committee to carry out its own inquiry into how the flooding happened.
