He's the only Irish nominee in the category and is up against Bradley Cooper, Colman Domingo, Paul Giamatti and Jeffrey Wright.
Hopes had been high for nominations for Andrew Scott, Paul Mescal and Barry Keoghan.
Poor Things starring Emma Stone was produced by a Dublin-based company. It received 11 nominations.
The awards ceremony takes place in Los Angeles on March 10th.
