The Department of Children says 85 per cent of childcare providers they have surveyed plan on re-opening.
It comes after the Tánaiste Leo Varadkar cited false information in the Dáil saying as many as 40% would remain shut.
Leo Varadkar's spokesman has said the Tánaiste was given incorrect information by the Department of Children.
He had earlier told the Dáil that "60% of the existing services have indicated they will be reopening by September".
The Federation of Childcare Providers say 150 facilities closed their doors in the last two weeks.
A large survey of providers by the Department of Children has indicated 85% of childcare providers will re-open in September, with just 2% saying they will stay closed.
The rest are still thinking about what to do.
