One of America's most notorious killers and cult leaders Charles Manson has died at the age of 83.

83 year Charles Manson who died in prison last night had spent over 40 years behind bars after he was convicted of orchestrating a string of killings that shocked the world in the summer of 1969.
Manson led a cult known as the Manson Family and his female followers brutally murdered pregnant actress Sharon Tate and 6 others in a gruesome two day rampage in California.
He was also later convicted of killing two others and had never shown any remorse
Manson's name and image have become synonymous with evil and he had a swastika carved into his forehead
In 1971, Manson was given the death penalty, but this was later reduced to 9 life sentences after capital punishment was abolished in California.
He spent 45 years in jail and was denied parole 12 times.
The New York Post announced his death by saying: "Make room, Satan, Charles Manson is finally going to hell."
