New EU laws will see an extra security step introduced before people can buy something or log in to their accounts.
The aim of the regulations, which come into effect in September, is to reduce fraud and make online payments more secure.
Each bank will communicate directly with their customers to explain how the new rules will work for their accounts.
Subscriptions like Netflix aren't affected.
