An Italian man admitted to the Central Mental Hospital after being charged with murdering a man in Castleknock is due in court shortly.
Saverio Bellante is accused of killing his landlord at his home at Beechpark Avenue last weekend.
Tom O'Gorman, a researcher with the Iona Institute, was beaten and stabbed to death sometime between Saturday night and the early hours of Sunday.
Detectives have described it as one of the most gruesome cases they've ever handled and believe Tom may have been killed in a row over a game of chess
His lodger, Saverio Bellante, was arrested at the scene before being charged
He was brought before Blanchardstown DC on Monday morning and the court heard he replied: "I AM GUILTY" when the charge was first put to him.
He told Judge David McHugh he didn't need a lawyer because he wanted to represent himself.
Judge McHugh ordered for him to be medically assessed while in custody and that led to him being admitted to the Central Mental Hospital for treatment.
Mr. Bellante, who's originally from Palermo in Sicily, is due before Cloverhill DC this morning
