Three cars, believed to belong to Gardai, have been damaged in Dundalk Co. Louth.
One of them was damaged at a house in Knockbridge in the early hours of this morning in a suspected arson attack.
Two other cars were also damaged in the process.
Nobody was injured in the incident.
An investigation has been launched into what happened.
Local TD Declan Breathnach says it appears to be an intimidation tactic:
The incident clearly was an attempt to intimidate An Garda Siochana and their families.
"The individuals who were responsible for this are clearly trying to frighten families."
The Garda Representative Association says the overnight attack is not likely to be a coincidence and almost certainly connected to the officers work.
