4 and 5-year-old children are seeing up to 1,000 junk food ads per year on television, according to the Irish Heart Foundation.
It's called for Ireland to follow in the UK government's footsteps by banning junk food advertising before the 9pm watershed.
A recent study on the amount of junk food advertising on Britain's 4 main commercial channels in the space of a month found 47% of food ads were for products high in fat, salt and sugar.
That rose to 60% between 6pm and 9pm.
The House of Commons will also hear that paid digital advertising by fast food outlets will be banned, but they can still have a presence.
"What we have here is a weak voluntary code that was launched over three years ago but was never implemented and is not monitored" according to Chris Macey, Head of Advocacy with the Irish Heart Foundation.
