The finishing touches are being put on Budget 2022 ahead of its announcement tomorrow.
The Government is finalising the details of a package aimed at helping people to meet the rising cost of heating their homes.
One of the last pieces of the budget to be nailed down is how vulnerable people will be helped to meet rising fuel costs.
It's expected there will be a rise in the fuel allowance, possibly of €5 a week, from its current €28 a week.
It's also likely the eligibility for the payment will be expanded.
Tomorrow's budget is being billed as one that will set the path for the Covid recovery with a little for a lot of people.
The point at which people pay the higher rate of income tax will likely be raised.
There will be a €5 a week increase in the State Pension and other welfare payments, costing a total of €350 million a year.
A 100m euro package for childcare will see prices be frozen by providers in exchange for a Government subsidy.
But opposition parties have already been critical, saying it's not enough to freeze prices that are like a second mortgage already, and they must be reduced.
