The Ministers for Finance and Public Expendure and Reform have been delivering Budget 2014 to the Dail.

Under the measures, 2.5 billion euro is being taken out of the economy through increased taxes and cuts in spending.

Among the measures outlined by Finance Minister Michael Noonan are...

An increase in the prescription levy from 1.50 to 2.50... 10 cent on a pint, 10 cent on cigarettes and 50 cent on a bottle of wine.

Maternity benefit is being standardised at 230 Euro a week for all women

The one parent tax credit will be made available to the primary carer only

And jobseekers allowance for under 25s is to be standardised at 100 Euro a week.

Speaking on the Last Word, Economics Lecturer at the Univeristy of Limerick Stephen Kinsella said this budget is a bad news for young graduates...
