Bord Gais is seeking a price increase of more than 7% from the autumn.
The Commission for Energy Regulation says it will consider the request, which Bord Gais wants to take effect from October 1st next.
The price hike of7.22%, if granted, would impact residential gas bills and not corporate accounts.
Bord Gais says the increase relates to network and transmission costs.
