The bodies of Ruairí and Eoghan Chada were found in Co Mayo this afternoon.
The brothers, who were aged 5 and 10, went missing in the company of their father overnight.
The alarm was raised when they failed to return home after a bowling trip with 43 year old Sanjeev Chada.
They left the family home at Ballinkill in Bagenalstown at around 6.30 yesterday evening.
Gardaí issued an urgent public appeal for anyone who may have seen the family or their green Ford Focus car to contact them.
They also issued a Child Rescue Ireland alert, posting electronic appeals on motorway signs.
However the CRI alert was lifted just after 4pm, when it emerged that the childrens' bodies had been found.
It's understood their bodies were found in a car that crashed on the outskirts of Westport.
Gardai have declined to confirm and details, or to comment on the whereabouts or condition of their father.
