Awards for personal injury insurance claims are set to be reduced.
The Judicial Council has agreed to revise award guidelines which will pave the way for lower insurance pay-outs in the future.
However, some business owners and groups such as ISME and the Irish Hotels Federation, say the reductions don’t go far enough.
CEO of Supermacs, Pat McDonagh, says this was not an issue for the Judicial Council to be involved in:
"There's a lot of talk about white-collar crime at the moment - this is the greatest white-collar crime in the country.
"The whole laws have been manipulated by the legal profession to suit themselves".
Insurance Ireland says a reduction in the cost of policies will have to wait until historic cases, which are already in the system, are finalised.
Every accident that happens from today onwards will be operated under the new guidelines by the Personal Injuries Assessment Board.
