The average adult is now in 83 active group chats.
In the survey of 2,000 people, more than a quarter say they're in touch with their friends, family and work colleagues though group chats more than one-one-one messages.
Family group chats are the most common (66%), followed by friendship groups (55%) and night-out planning (30%).
Whatsapp is the most popular group chat platform - the average user is part of 10 group chats with 12 members on WhatsApp.
‘Holibobs’, ‘Hen Huns’, ‘Famalam’, 'Gossip Girlies’ and ‘Baes’ are the most common group chat names, according to research by Vodafone.
More than half of people surveyed (56%) said they prefer group chats as they're able to share personal updates with everyone at one time.
Sharing photos and videos, easier to plan events, as well as being able to share 'big news' with loved ones at the same time were also listed as reasons for their popularity.
