The ASTI says it's going to meet with the Minister for Education today to discuss issues with the Leaving Cert, but they're not back in talks.
The teachers union withdrew from the discussion about the exams yesterday evening over the calculated grades part of the twin process.
The ASTI says it's committed to getting a solution as soon as possible but there has to be an exam result with standards.
President of the union Anne Piggott says it's become clear that the non-examination aspect of the leaving cert is the calculated grades process; 'We have a problem with calculated grades because of the issues it caused last year. Last year we entered into this on a once-off commitment, we were happy to do it at the time just to allow students to move forward. We have serious reservations about so many aspects of it.
The Irish Second-Level Students' Union, say it's unrealistic for the ASTI to demand the Leaving Cert go ahead as normal this year.
