Apple Fined Over €1.8billion By EU For Restricting Music Streaming
Apple has been fined €1.84 billion euro by the European Union for restricting music streaming.
The European Commission believes Apple has abused its dominant position.
The EU has concluded consumers were forced to pay more than they should have for music streaming apps.
The fine amounts to 0.5 per cent of Apple's worldwide turnover.
European Competitions Commissioner, Margrethe Vestager, says Apple's actions were illegal:
"Apple did so by restricting app developers' ability to inform users of Apple devices about cheaper, alternative options to purchase music available on the internet outside of the Apple ecosystem," she said.
"This is illegal," the Commissioner added, "and it has impacted millions of European consumers."
