Up to 1,000 new jobs are being created at Apple in Cork.

CEO Tim Cook is in Ireland to make the announcement at the tech giant's European headquarters in Hollyhill.

This is one of the biggest jobs announcements in Ireland since the economic crash.

1,000 new positions are being unveiled at Apple's Hollyhill campus in Cork - 5,000 people are already employed there.

It's expanding its operation there and adding a new building that will provide office space and room for the new workers by mid-2017.

CEO Tim Cook is in Ireland for the announcement - and there's speculation that special musical guests Bono and U2 will be there.

The head of the tech giant is in Trinity College Dublin this morning to receive a Gold Medal of Honorary Patronage from the Phil Soc.
