Amazon has secured planning permission for three new data centres in west Dublin.
The tech giant plans to build the centres at its campus at Cruiserath Road in Mulhuddart.
It means six data centres will be located at the site in total.
Fingal County Council has granted permission for the new centres despite challenges from environmental groups.
Oisin Coughlan from Friends of the Earth feels the decision will be appealed to An Bord Pleanala.
He said "It's really hard for the Government to turn around to all of us and say we need to start retrofiting our homes, lose our car parking spaces, take public transport because we all need to save fossil fuels and use less power.
"And on the other hand say to these tech multi nationals, come here and put all your data dumping here."
CSO figures earlier this year showed data centres had increased their electricity consumption by over 30% last year, compared to 2022.
