James Caan, the star of The Godfather and Elf has died aged 82.
A statement on his Twitter account read, "It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Jimmy on the evening of July 6.

He was born in New York City in the 1940s and is best known for playing Sonny Corleone in the Mafia epic The Godfather.

While for younger audiences he would be best known for playing Buddy the Elf's father in the Christmas movie Elf.
