Acting Chief Medical Officer Dr Ronan Glynn this evening urged people all over the country to continue following the public health advice.
He said it seems very clear that the Oireachtas Golf Society dinner in Co Galway should not have taken place, but he encouraged the public to stay the course.
He said: "I just want to give a message that we've come too far in this country, and too many people have sacrificed too much for us to be veered off course at this point.
"A fundamental and a key part of our success in this country to date has been solidarity and a sense of fairness.
"I would urge people to focus on what they can still do individually to protect themselves, their families and their loved ones."
The latest figures from the HSE show there are 18 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Irish hospitals, and six cases in intensive care units.
