Around 70 million euro has been announced in funding for school improvements.
The Minister for Education Ruairi Quinn says there are two parts to the allocation-with over 28 million being made available as a once-off payment to primary schools as part of the Minor Works Grant scheme. The funding will be paid to primary schools in the coming weeks and will allow schools to carryout small repair works.
While another 40 million euro's is also being allocated under the Summer Works programme for next year. The grant aid will allow schools to undertake building works such as mechanical works, roof and window upgrades and structural improvements.
Schools can apply for these grants online using the Esinet portal.
