7 in 10 of us check our phones first thing every morning before we even get out of bed.
74% say they look at their phone as soon as they wake up, compared with 59% a year ago.
Half say they stay awake later than planned due to they use their device at night time.
The research from Deloitte, shows 98% of 18-75 year olds use their smartphone every day, with 16% reporting they check their phones at least 100 times a day, and 36% checking it 50 times a day.
67% of 18-34 year olds say they wished they spent less time on their devices.
Partner in Deloitte John Kehoe says 18-34 year olds think they're using their smartphone too much.
"It's pretty much taken over as the preferred device for pretty much everything we do from browsing websites to making online purchases, online searches, banking, and even playing games now as well.
"Over the last few years, we've seen the trend through the Deloitte survey as mobiles take over and become the preferred device".
Apple and Samsung continue to dominate the smartphone market. 37% of adults say they own an Apple phone and 38% own a Samsung phone.
Apple remains the most popular brand among 18-34 year olds.
