63,000 people have closed their claim for a Pandemic Unemployment Payment since last Tuesday.
The Department of Social Protection says this is the highest number of people it has seen return to work in a single week since the crisis commenced.
Some 44,800 will be receiving their final payment tomorrow with the reduction in numbers receiving the payment being reflected in next week’s figures.
The top three sectors in which employees are returning to work this week are Accommodation and Food Services, Other Sectors e.g. hairdressers, barbers and Wholesale and Retail Trade, Repair of Motor Vehicles and motorcycles followed by the Construction Sector.
Just under 413,000 people will receive the covid-19 pandemic unemployment payment tomorrow, which is 26,100 fewer claims compared to last week.
From then, the new two-tier system comes into effect.
More than 110,00 people who were earning an average of €200 before the pandemic hit will receive the new rate of payment of €203 a week.
75% of recipients will remain on the €350 rate.
Meanwhile, 410,000 employees wages are currently being topped up by the wage subsidy scheme.
