The Road Safety Authority is recalling around 120 thousand high visibility vests - as they're not reflective enough.
The RSA buys about one million hi-vis vests a year, distributing them to schools and various road users.
370 thousand vests which were bought this year were found to be faulty - in that the tape was not reflective enough.
150 thousand of those have been destroyed - the remainder will have to be recalled.
Members of the public with the Optipro-brand vests will have the option to get a free replacement later this month.
The company which furnished the vests to the RSA will be bearing 100% of the cost of the faulty vests.
