Around 35,000 households are facing an energy price hike today, as two providers introduce increase their rates.
SSE Airtricity is increasing its gas and electricity charges by 9 percent, which will add an average of €115 to a household's annual gas and electricity costs.
Meanwhile Pinergy is upping its prices by 19 percent, which adds around €300 to an annual bill.
Head of Communications at bonkers.ie, Daragh Cassidy says the price hikes come on top of further increases earlier this year:
"In Ireland and in Europe there's been over 35 price hike announcements this year - and the year's not even over."
He said with all the price hikes combined, Pinergy customers are forking out around €780 more for their electricity each year.
SSE Airtricity customers will pay €500 more for their gas and electricity.
