Three college staff earn over €300,000 a year, according to figures in today's Irish Mail on Sunday.
Of those, two are staff in University College Dublin and one is in the University of Limerick.
The report also reveals that a further 40 people earn between €200,000 and €300,000 thousand at colleges around the country.
Of 1,248 who earn €100,000, 271 of them are at UCD, 243 work in Trinity and UCC has 243 staff in that pay bracket.
The highest-paid academic in the country is UCD's deputy director of systems biology, who earns €340,000 thousand per year.
The paper uncovered the amounts paid to staff by information directly obtained from the colleges involved or from their most recent financial reports.
Last year, universities got Government approval to recruit top academics on salaries scales up to €337,000.
