250,000 Claims For The Rent Tax Credit
More than a quarter of a million claims were made for the rent tax credit in 2022.
€120 million has been paid in respect of claims for last year.
The total number of claims for 2022 and 2023 now exceeds 323,000.
The tax credit was first introduced in Budget 2023 and it was valued at €500.
It has been increased in Budget 2024 and will be worth €750 per tenant.
Finance Minister Michael McGrath said, "it is very welcome that as at 6th December, there are now over 250,000 PAYE taxpayer units who have claimed the credit for 2022, the first year in which for which it applies.
"As a proportion of those claims will be in respect of jointly assessed couples, who may claim up to €1,000 in respect of 2022 and 2023, so the actual number of people who have benefitted from this measure is even greater."
